Whether you are a beginner or a serious Scrabble player, this is the starting point for all you need to know about Scrabble in India. The Scrabble Association of India unites Scrabble players across the country and conducts regular events and tournaments in different cities.
At present, we have our members concentrated in centres such as Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Delhi, Goa, Vadodara and Kolkata. However, we are always looking at spreading across different cities in India through promotion and events.

*Indian contingent shines at World Seniors Championship*As many as 21 players from India took part at the 2026 World Seniors Scrabble Championship in Colombo, Sri Lanka from 11th to 13th September, marking the highest Indian turnout ever at this tournament. There were three Indian players in the top five, with Sunny Bhatia finishing second, Rajeev Menon third, and Sanjoy Gupta fifth - each of them notching 16 wins in 24 rounds.With players divided into three rating categories, Abhijit Shilotri finished first in Class C, closely followed by Harvinderjit Bhatia.The final results and standings can be seen here: scoreboard.reprive.live/html/index.htmlCongratulations to all the winners!
*Inaugural Kolkata Cup sees a gripping finale*The last weekend of August marked a new addition to the Indian Scrabble calendar, as the inaugural Kolkata Cup was held from 28th to 30th August at Hotel Golden Tulip. Organised by the Kolkata Scrabble Club, the tourney drew 29 players in the Open Division and 9 in the Newbie Division.The final day was highlighted by a closely-fought battle between international Grandmasters Akshay Bhandarkar and Sherwin Rodrigues, which went into the final round. It was Akshay who prevailed on the basis of spread after winning the final game - both finished with 17 wins from 24 rounds - to record his fourth title win of the year.Joining Akshay and Sherwin on the podium was Sunny Bhatia with 15.5 wins, while Sam Kantimathi and Pramit Kamath rounded off the top five with 15 wins each. The newbie division was won by Rachna Kheria, who produced an impressive performance to win six out of seven games.Thanks to the Kolkata Scrabble Club, spearheaded by Arindam Basu with able support from Rajnikant Singh, for conducting the first edition of this new national tournament. *Team India finishes second at WYSC 2026*India's 11-member contingent produced an impressive performance to finish as the second best team at the 2026 World Youth Scrabble Championship in Nairobi, which concluded on 9th August.Team India achieved the second place in the team rankings with a mean rank of 8.00, with Suyash Manchali (third place overall with 18 wins - the joint highest) and Madhav Gopal Kamath (fifth place with 16.5 wins) finishing in the top five among 136 players.Also in the top 20 were Ahana Goyal (16th) and Samarth Manchali (17th), who also finished second in the under-14 category.The final results and standings can be seen here: scrabblekenya.com/tsh/WYSC2026/html/index.htmlHearty congratulations to our young Scrabblers for making India proud on the world stage! 🇮🇳 🌟

*Team India embarks upon World Youth Scrabble Championship as Madhav aims for an encore*A team of 11 youngsters – six boys and five girls – will be representing India at the 2026 World Youth Scrabble Championship (WYSC), which will be held in Nairobi, Kenya from 7th to 9th August.The Indian contingent for the WYSC comprises:Madhav Gopal Kamath (aged 15, from Delhi), the defending championSuyash Manchali (16, Bengaluru), Samarth Manchali (12, Bengaluru), Ishika Poddar (17, Mumbai), Vihaan Singhvi (15, Jaipur), Ahana Goyal (16, Delhi), Anika Dalwani (16, Mumbai), Suhaas Khandelwal (14, Bengaluru), Khanak Singhvi (11, Jaipur), Aria Kapadia (13, Mumbai)Shreyas Khandelwal (10, Bengaluru)Madhav, who became India’s youngest national Scrabble champion and the world’s youngest Scrabble Grandmaster last year, created history by becoming the first player to win a major global Scrabble tournament for India when he won the 2025 WYSC in Malaysia. Currently ranked eighth in the world, Madhav enters this year’s edition as the top seed and favourite once again, and will aim to record back-to-back WYSC titles. His remarkable consistency was on display in the past couple of months, as he followed up an impressive eighth-place finish in the immensely demanding Causeway Challenge in Bangkok with a title victory at the Chennai Open.Another strong contender for the title will be Suyash, ranked seventh in India, who finished fifth at last year’s WYSC and second at the 2024 edition in Sri Lanka.
